Oil Search believes that establishing and maintaining meaningful relationships with people and governments impacted by its oil and gas developments is vital to operating successfully in PNG and the other countries where the Company is active.
The Company has specialised for many years in operating in developing countries and expects to work in PNG and elsewhere for many decades to come. It recognises that only by conducting itself according to the principles of sustainable development is it able to achieve its business objectives. Oil Search is therefore committed to supporting sustainable development. The Company applies these principles across all of its operations, especially in those areas directly impacted by the petroleum exploration, construction and development activities.
The scope of Oil Search's community affairs programmes goes far beyond what is required under the PNG Oil & Gas Act or other Government licencing requirements.
We are acutely aware of the social, environmental and economic situations of impacted people in the locations where we operate. The Company has developed a range of programmes to mitigate the impacts of its operations, to improve the livelihoods of people in those communities and contribute to a sustainable future. We believe that petroleum project area communities are truly our partners in development and will continue to work closely with them.
The Company's Community Affairs programmes complement the activities of national and provincial governments and local-level government agencies. Oil Search also works cooperatively with certain faith based and non-government organisations who have a presence in the project areas.
Our aim is to leave a long-term legacy of improved sustainable development opportunities in all the areas where Oil Search operates.
