A robust HSES Management System has been developed and implemented in conjunction with the organisations workforce and in compliance with International best practice models as follows:

Health and Safety

Fundamental to ensure success throughout the organisation in HSES are a number of key elements necessary to develop, implement and maintain a robust and effective health and safety management system. These are shown below:

Leadership and commitment	Top-down commitment and company culture, essential to the success of the system.
Policy and strategic objectives	Corporate intentions, principles of action and aspirations with respect to health, safety and environment.
Organisation, resources and documentation	Organisation of people, resources and documentation for sound HSE performance.
Evaluation and risk management	Identification and evaluation of HSE risks, for activities, product and services, and development of risk reduction measures.
Planning	Planning the conduct of work activities, including planning for changes and emergency response.
Implementation and monitoring	Performance and monitoring of activities and how corrective action is to be taken when necessary.
Auditing and reviewing	Periodic assessments of system performance, effectiveness and fundamental suitability.

Successful handling of HSE matters is a line responsibility in Oil Search, requiring the active participation of all levels of management and supervision.The company maintains a number of detailed procedures, policies and documentation to identify systematically the hazards and effects, which may arise from its activities.

Oil Search maintains a number of plans for achieving HSE objectives and performance criteria. It also maintains procedures to assure that HSE critical facilities and equipment that it designs, procures, operates, maintains and inspects are suitable for the required purpose and comply with defined criteria.

Oil Search maintains detailed plans to identify foreseeable emergencies and crises. It regularly assesses the effectiveness of response plans by scenario drills.
